Paydirt Review"Paydirt" is a refreshing change of pace for Levine, whose work I've read starting with TO SPEAK FOR THE DEAD (The Jake Lassiter Series) quite a few years ago. This one is not a legal thriller. It's more of a caper, at times funny, at times suspenseful, always entertaining.
Bobby Gallagher was on top of the world as an executive with the Dallas Mustangs (read "Cowboys") until he blows it by crossing the owner, who happens to be his father-in-law. In short order, Bobby is divorced, broke, and reduced to working as a chauffeur and part-time bookie. All he wants is to get his ex-wife and son back.
A string of bad bets makes it imperative that Denver beats Dallas in the Super Bowl (and cover the point spread). To make sure that happens, Bobby comes up with a hilarious scheme to fix the game. To tell any more would ruin the story.
You don't have to be a football fan to enjoy the family drama and the high risks of a natural born gambler. Will Bobby's losing streak end?
