Mel Bay 121 Fills for Gospel & Country Piano (Book/CD Set) ReviewI was surprised by this little book. The simple "fills", riffs or licks that the author puts together are surprisingly musical and sound great on the CD. They are constructed from a few simple component parts that can be combined and played in different ways to create a working musical vocabulary. The book was surprisingly useful to me in unlocking the "secret" of the construction of many licks and then understanding how to play them in a way that made them sing out. I think this book would work well for beginners and for intermediate and even more advanced players who can quickly grasp the musical ideas and have the chops to play the licks and adapt them into a variety of settings immediately.
