New Perspectives on Computer Concepts 2012: Comprehensive (New Perspectives (Course Technology Paperback)) ReviewI've only read through the orientation which is required for the first week of class. Let me tell you that as someone who's taking this course as a prerequisite, I am thoroughly disappointed! I've been in IT for almost 20 years and have seen everything there is to see.I'm not even in the first chapter and so far I have seen incorrect, or completely missing information! We are required to answer questions at the end of each chapter contained in the book on CD. The book on CD cannot be searched using control-F. In fact, there is no way to search the book! So when you're asked a question, you have to find out the exact wording of what the book is looking for. And guess what? THE ANSWERS ARE NOT IN THE STINKING BOOK! Look at the orientation question for security suites. It asks "True or false, anti-virus programs are part of security suites?" There is nothing in the section on security suites about anti-virus programs! And even though I knew the answer, I didn't know what the book was looking for!
The other thing I ran into that was just plain wrong AND not in the book, was the question about powering-down a PC. Any idiot knows that every PC made since 2001 can be powered-down by pressing the power button. And it will do it safely as long you don't hold down the button to make it hard power-down. But the question asks "True or false, you should only power down a PC using the operating system blah blah blah." Well, it's false of course! But NO! The answer according to this idiotic book is TRUE! And guess what? That information isn't even in the book! Go ahead and look at the power section! Nothing whatsoever is written about using or not using the power button when powering off the PC, only while powering on!
What a piece of garbage! Instructors: DO NOT USE THIS BOOK! Your experienced students will pull their hair out in frustration with how terrible it is. And your inexperienced students will do the same but because of how confusing and contradictory it is!
